Lights up for a festive window trail in Ashton

Date Released - 19/10/2022

The Northern Lights Christmas Lantern Parade and Christmas Lights Switch On will kick start the first ever festive window trail in Ashton, which families will enjoy over the festive period.

Tameside Council are inviting local businesses in Ashton to team up with local artists, and help light up the town centre. Each business will work with an artist who will create artwork which will light up their shop or venue window display.  The trail will add that extra sparkle to Ashton’s festivities and encourage footfall to the town over Christmas and support local businesses.

All the window displays will be turned on the 19 November and a special map will be produced which families will be able to pick up from Ashton library to follow the trail. The window displays will remain in place for residents to enjoy throughout December and into the New Year.

Tameside Council Assistant Executive Member Culture, Heritage & Digital Inclusivity Cllr Sangita Patel said: “The Christmas events are all about supporting local businesses and this is a fantastic way for them to be involved to help light up the town centre and be part of something that the whole community can enjoy. The window displays will really lift festive spirits while encouraging people to shop locally.”

If you would like to be involved and have a window displayed in your businesses email events@tameside.gov.uk to find out more.
